Wellspring issued an apology following their controversial marketing campaign, 'Gil Tulog Ave.,' which drew criticism from the Puyat family, netizens, and the Makati Local Government Unit (LGU).

“We recognize and deeply regret the insensitivity of our execution and we offer our sincerest apologies to the Puyat family, the Makati City government, and the public,” Wellspring said in a statement on Friday.

The brand assured that it has learned from its mistakes and is committed to making improvements.

Wellspring mentioned that it was never their intention to offend anyone with their marketing execution, which used wordplay to highlight the importance of sleep and its contribution to overall health.

After recognizing the insensitivity of the campaign, they promptly removed all signage.

They also apologized to the family of the late Sen. Gil Puyat for the harm and offense caused by the campaign. They assured the family that there was no intent to tarnish or disrespect his legacy.

An apology was also extended to the Makati City LGU, particularly to Mayor Abby Binay, for what they call as a "misstep."

“As we learn from this experience, Wellspring is committed to practice better sensitivity in our campaigns moving forward,” Wellspring said.

On Thursday, the "Gil Tulog Ave." sign went viral, receiving mixed reactions from netizens. However, the late Senator's kin expressed their dismay and frustration, citing the disrespectful nature of the marketing stunt.

Additionally, Makati Mayor Binay slammed the offensive aspect of the campaign and apologized to the citizens and Puyat family.
