Senate President Juan Miguel 'Migz' Zubiri on Wednesday officially signed the controversial measure that seeks to establish a Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF) or sovereign wealth fund and two other enrolled Senate bills.
Zubiri signed Senate Bill 2020 or the Maharlika Investment Fund Act, SB No. 2219, or Tax Amnesty Act, and SB No. 1615, or An Act Recognizing Baler as the birthplace of Philippine Surfing at the Philippine Embassy in Washington, United States (US).
Government officials who witnessed the signing of the three enrolled bills are Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel ‘Babe’ Romualdez, Senator Francis ‘Tol’ Tolentino, and Senate Secretary Renato Bantug who personally brought the bills to the US.
The Senate President shared photos of him with Romualdez, Tolentino, and Bantug during the signing.
Zubiri recently traveled to the US for his official working state visit.
Earlier, Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. certified the MIF Act as his administration's priority measure and the Tax Amnesty Extension Act as an urgent measure.
The enrolled bills will be sent to House Speaker Martin Romualdez for his signature.
Once signed, it will be transmitted to the Office of the President (OP).
