Wearing face masks inside the trains of two major railways the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) are still required, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has reminded the public.
In a statement on Sunday, DOTr Assistant Secretary for Railways Jorjette Aquino said this is in accordance with the advice of the medical professionals in the railway sector who stressed that wearing a face mask will stop possible transmission of COVID-19, especially in enclosed spaces like the trains.
“Even if you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you can still become infected and potentially spread the virus to others,” she said.
But Aquino noted that face masks are still optional in open-air spaces in the stations of the Philippine National Railways (PNR).
The DOTr official encouraged the public to get their second booster shot against COVID-19.
“As explained by medical professionals, these booster shots are designed to help maintain the level of protection against the virus, especially as new variants emerge,” she added.
