Filipino fighter Eumir Marcial defeated Arman Darchinyan of Armenia on Sunday, August 1, to secure a semifinals spot in the men's middleweight boxing event of the Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Marcial used a right hook to knock out Darchinyan after two minutes and 11 seconds passed in the first round of the quarterfinals match held at the Kokugikan Arena.

Marcial entered the quarterfinals by winning against Younes Nemouchi of Algeria on Thursday, July 29, via referee stoppage.

The referee stopped the fight in the first round after Marcial managed to knock down Nemouchi, and the Algerian boxer suffered a cut above his eyes.

The semifinals apperances assures that Marcial will at least bring home a bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics.

Marcial will face Oleksandr Khyzhniak of Ukraine on Thursday, August 5, in order to advance to the finals, and earn a chance to win another Olympic gold medal for the Philippines.
