President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Felipe Medalla spearheaded the unveiling of the commemorative coin for the 125th anniversary of Philippine independence in Malacañang.

The BSP issued the coin set in P100, P20, and P5 denominations, depicting, respectively, the 1898 declaration of Philippine independence in Kawit, Cavite, the birth of the short-lived First Philippine Republic at Barasoain Church in Malolos City, Bulacan, and the bravery of Filipinos who fought during the Philippine-American War.

Marcos stated in his brief remarks that the manufacturing of the coins should not only remind Filipinos of significant moments in the country's history but also of the Philippines' emergence as an independent nation.

He emphasized that the BSP used cutting-edge digital printing technology to create the coin set, which includes the country's first colored, non-circulating commemorative coins.

The chief executive described the commemorative coins as being made of the most modern technology that symbolizes the Philippines’ stage in development that is now at the forefront and will be using the best technologies, best techniques, and everything else that he said is good and new for the country.

Meanwhile, the BSP stated that it will announce when the coin set will be available for purchase on its online store via its social media channels.

This year's 125th Independence Day celebration is being led by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines with the theme "Kalayaan." Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan."
