MANILA, Philippines – Indonesia deployed two of its air assets after responding to requests from the Philippine government, to assist in humanitarian response operations in areas severely affected by Typhoon Kristine.
According to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Manila, air assets from the Indonesian Armed Forces were deployed as response to the request from the Philippines’ Office of the Civil Defense (OCD).
“Indonesian Army Mi-17 and Indonesian Airforce’s H-225M Caracal departed Semarang and Bogor respectively and arrived in Davao City on 30 October 2024. The aircraft are expected to arrive at the Villamor Airbase in Manila at 1015H today,” the Embassy shared.
Aside from the aircraft, the Embassy confirmed that 24 Indonesian military personnel will give assistance during the humanitarian response mission.
“Twenty-four (24) Indonesian military personnel, headed by Col. Pnb Asep Wahyu Wijaya, Commander of Air Wing 4, Atang Senjaja Air Force Base in Bogor, Indonesia, to help in the evacuation, logistics, relief distribution, and reconstruction of the affected areas during the tropical storm Trami (local name: Kristine) that hit the Philippines,” the Embassy said.
The aircraft, with the military personnel onboard, was welcomed by Indonesian Ambassador to the Philippines, H.E. Agus Widjojo.
“Due to Indonesia and the Philippines’ geographical proximity and archipelagic in nature, both countries are prone to disaster. But because they share a special bond of kinship – Indonesia is always ready to support and assist the Philippines in these trying times – and I’m sure the Philippines will do the same,” Ambassador Widjojo said.
