NGCP places yellow alert on Luzon, Visayas grids on Tuesday

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) placed Luzon and Visayas Grid on yellow alert on Tuesday, May 14.

According to NGCP, the Luzon grid's yellow alert status will take effect from 1:00 PM-5:00 PM and 8:00 PM-10 PM.

Luzon Grid has 14,963MW available capacity with a peak demand of 13,871MW.

"5 plants have been on forced outage since 2023, 4 between January and March 2024, and 6 power plants between April and May 2024; while 4 are running on derated capacities, for a total of 1532.1MW unavailable to the grid," the NGCP said in an advisory.

Meanwhile, a yellow alert in Visayas will be experienced from 1:00 PM-4:00 PM and 6:00 PM-9:00 PM.

Its available capacity is 2,877 MW with a peak demand of 2,646 MW.

"1 plant has been on forced outage since 2022, 2 since 2023, 2 between January and March 2024, and 16 power plants between April and May 2024; while 4 are running on derated capacities, for a total of 550.1MW unavailable to the grid," NGCP's advisory read.

According to NGCP, a yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
