The Makati City government is prepared to defend its territorial jurisdiction in front of the Supreme Court (SC) en banc and to hold oral arguments in its land dispute with Taguig.

Mayor Abby Binay on Wednesday said that the city's legal team had gotten notification from the Supreme Court that a hearing on the city's urgent demand to elevate the issue before all magistrates had been scheduled.

Despite the fact that the Supreme Court "wrote finis" to the case, siding with Taguig's historical claim over the "embos" or "enlisted men's barrios" barangays in Makati's second district, Binay stated the fight is far from done.

She stated that the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has not directed Makati to hand over the embo barangays to Taguig.

The mayor admits to crying after the Supreme Court approved in April the entry of judgment on its special third division's December 2021 decision, which refused Makati's appeal on Taguig's victory via a petition for review.

The Supreme Court stated in a statement that it has put an end to the tug-of-war over the embo barangays as well as the military reservation Fort Bonifacio, which is home to the 240-hectare lifestyle hub and financial center of Bonifacio Global City.

Binay stated that if their residence region is transferred to Taguig, 200,000 residents in the embo barangays will forfeit their benefits in Makati.
