The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) assured its customers that electricity restoration will start immediately once the flooding subsides in areas affected by Typhoon Carina and the enhanced southwest monsoon.
"Pag bumababa na 'yung tubig baha, nagsisimula na kaming magrestore ng kuryente doon sa mga lugar," Meralco Spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga said during an exclusive interview with DZRH on Thursday.
"Inaassess namin on the ground kung kaya ng ibalik," he added.
Meralco reported that over 650,000 households in Metro Manila were affected by the power outage yesterday amid the heavy rainfall.
Zaldarriaga mentioned that they can't immediately restore power upon request because they still need to assess the situation and ensure safety for everyone in the community.
With this, Meralco appealed for more understanding from the public.
"Ginagawa na natin 'yan as soon as it is safe for the community," the spokesperson said referring to power restoration.
"Kakaiba kasi ang nangyayari sa atin ngayon, ang taas ng tubig baha sa area na dati hindi naman," Zaldarriaga added.
Meralco attributed the unexpected severe flooding as the cause of the widespread power outages in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
According to Meralco, 390,000 households are still affected by the power outage as of today, July 25.
