Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Nika is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) today, PAGASA reported on Tuesday.
In its 11 AM weather bulletin, the weather bureau reported that STS Nika is located 225 km West Northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, or 315 km West of Calayan, Cagayan.
Furthermore, it has maximum sustained winds of 95 km/h, gusts reaching up to 115 km/h, and is moving northwestward at a speed of 10 km/h.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals No. 1 is still in effect in some areas including:
- the northern portion of Ilocos Norte
- the northern portion of Apayao
- the northwestern portion of Cagayan
- the northwestern portion of Babuyan Islands
Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible in areas under Wind Signal No. 1.
Meanwhile, STS Nika will continue moving generally northwestward to westward over the West Philippine Sea and is expected to exit PAR this afternoon.
It is expected to remain a severe tropical storm throughout its passage within the PAR region.
The next tropical cyclone bulletin will be released at 5:00 PM today.
