Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena registered his best finish yet in 2024 to win a gold medal in the 6th Irena Szewinska Memorial in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

The Asian record-holder ruled the men's pole vault tournament after clearing 5.97 meters.

Emmanouil Karalis of Greece registered 5.92 meters to place second in the competition, while Piotr Lisek cleared 5.92 meters to snag the bronze medal.

Obiena, who will compete in the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris, France, also attempted to clear 6.02 meters but fell short of clearing the said height.
