Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena fell short of winning a medal in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
2020 Olympic gold medalist Armand Duplantis of Sweden ruled the event and set a new world record after he cleared 6.25 meters mark in the finals on Monday, August 5 (Paris Time).
American pole vaulter Sam Kendricks cleared 5.95 meters to grab the silver medal, while Emmanouil Karalis of Greece registered a height of 5.90 meters and earned the last podium spot.
Obiena, ranked number two in the world, also cleared the 5.90 meters mark but settled for a fourth place finish due to his failure to clear the 5.80 meters mark in his first attempt.
The Asian record holder tried to clear the 5.95 meters mark and remain in contention for a medal but he failed in all his three attempts.
The Philippines, currently, has won two gold medals in the Paris Games, all courtesy of World Champion gymnast Carlos Yulo.
Filipina boxers Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio have also secured podium finishes in the 33rd Olympics after advancing to the semifinals of their respective events.
