The resignation of Department of Finance (DOF) Undersecretary Cielo Magno was "expected" as she had been unsupportive of the Marcos administration and its programs, Malacañang said on Friday.
In a statement, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said Magno had been opposing the policies of the administration, adding that she publicized her stance online even before Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. assumed the presidency.
“Instead of working together with colleagues of the government to address any concerns, they were instead constantly done through public fora,” he added.
The Executive Secretary stressed that having someone like Magno in the administration would be “counterintuitive” since she was “clearly set on maligning it to begin with.”
Bersamin said they wished the best for the DOF undersecretary’s future endeavors.
In a message to reporters on Thursday, Magno said she resigned from the post but did not disclose the reason behind it.
“I was grateful for the opportunity to serve the Filipino people, but I think the academe will give me the flexibility I need to advocate for good policies," the undersecretary said.
Magno said the resignation will take effect on September 16.
