President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. on Monday visited the wake of Jullebee Ranara, the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was brutally killed in Kuwait.

In an interview with reporters, Marcos said he offered his deepest sympathies to Ranara's kin and assured them of the government's assistance.

"Nagsakripisyo ang anak nila na magtrabaho sa abroad dahil may mga pangarap siya para sa kanyang pamilya. Kaya’t sinabi ko dahil nawala na ‘yung anak ninyo, kami na lang ang tutupad ng pangarap ninyo," he said.

"So lahat ng assistance na puwede naming ibigay, ibibigay namin. That's what I assured them," Marcos added.

The President was accompanied by Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Susan 'Toots' Ople, Senator Mark Villar, and Las Piñas City lone district Rep. Camille Villar during his visit.

Bilateral labor agreement review

Meanwhile, Marcos said they are now scheduling a bilateral meeting with the government officials of Kuwait to review the existing bilateral labor agreement.

He added that they would assess if there are "any weaknesses" in the agreement, and if there are, they would seek "remedy."

"So that the agreement is more stronger and will be supportive of our workers," Marcos underlined.

The President expressed hope that such tragedy would "never happen again" to other Filipino abroad.
