Former Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque extended his gratitude to supporters following his release from a 24-hour detention in the House of Representatives.
"Nagpapasalamat po ako sa ating mga kababayan dito at sa labas ng Pilipinas sa inyong patuloy na pagtitiwala sa akin," Roque said in an official statement on Friday.
Roque mentioned that he wishes to spend quality time with his family, most especially with his wife whose birthday is on the same day of his detention in the congress.
In a Facebook live while he was in EDSA, Roque said that he is not afraid to voice out his opinion and fight for the country.
“Akala po nila masusupil nila tayo. Akala nila mababali nila ang ating paninindigan. Hindi po totoo iyan. Lalo pa tayong lumakas para ipaglaban ang sambayanang Pilipino," Roque said while raising his fist.
He claims that the investigation is not focused on POGO, drugs, or related issues, but rather on silencing him as a critic of the current administration.
“This is a fight between good and evil," said Roque.
He firmly stated that in his 34 years of law practice, he is unaware of any court that has jailed someone simply for failing to attend a hearing.
"Bakit sa kongreso, isa sa apat na hearing na naimbita ka, hindi nakarating, bakit may pagkakakulong?" asked Roque.
He then urged the Filipinos to speak and stand firm or else the youth might fall into drug abuse.
Roque was cited in contempt and ordered a 24-hour detention for his ‘honest mistake’ that resulted in his failure to attend the first hearing of the quad-committee of the House of Representatives on August 16.
