Hall of Fame NBA coach, Gregg Popovich is currently in recovery after suffering from a mild stroke on November 2, at the Frost Bank Center, the San Antonio Spurs announced early Thursday.
“The San Antonio Spurs today announced that Head Coach Gregg Popovich has suffered a mild stroke. The episode occurred on Nov. 2 at the Frost Bank Center,” the Spurs said in a statement.
Hours before the San Antonio Spurs’ 113-103 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, the NBA’s official website said that Popovich suffered a medical episode. At the time of the announcement, no further information was disclosed to the public.
Assistant coach Mitch Johnson has been the acting head coach since Popovich’s absence.
The Spurs’ health update on the 75-year-old legendary coach stated that he is expected to make a full recovery and that he has already begun with the rehabilitation program. However, there is no definite timeline set for his return to the sidelines.
“Popovich, who has already started a rehabilitation program, is expected to make a full recovery. At this point, a timeline for his return to the sidelines has not been determined. During this time, the organization is grateful to the extended community for providing privacy and space to the Popovich family,” the team added.

The Spurs will be playing at home against Washington on Wednesday, marking their seventh game with Johnson as the acting head coach.
Popovich has led the Spurs to five championships and is recognized as the NBA’s all-time win leader with 1,393 victories in the regular season. He is currently in his 29th season with the Spurs.
