Super Typhoon Leon continues to move towards Batanes, where Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 4 is now hoisted, according to PAGASA in their report on Wednesday afternoon.

In the weather bureau's 2 PM bulletin, "Leon" is located 310 km east of Calayan, Cagayan, with maximum sustained winds of 185 kph, gusts of up to 230 kph, and moving northwestward at 15 kph.

Tropical Wind Signal No. 4 is now in effect in Batanes, where residents are warned of the potential impacts of winds that pose a significant to severe threat to life and property.

Tropical Wind Signal No. 3 is hoisted in the following areas:

  • eastern portion of Babuyan Islands
  • northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan

The potential impacts of the winds pose a moderate to significant threat to life and property in areas where Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 is in effect.

Furthermore, TCWS No. 2 is in effect in the following areas:

  • rest of Babuyan Islands
  • rest of mainland Cagayan
  • northern and eastern portions of Isabela
  • Apayao
  • Kalinga
  • northern and eastern portions of Abra
  • eastern portion of Mountain Province (Paracelis)
  • Ilocos Norte

The potential impacts of the winds present a minor to moderate threat to life and property, prompting residents to take caution.

TCWS No. 1 is raised in the following areas:

  • The rest of Isabela
  • Quirino
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • rest of Mountain Province
  • Ifugao
  • Benguet
  • rest of Abra
  • Ilocos Sur
  • La Union
  • Pangasinan
  • Nueva Ecija
  • Aurora
  • northeastern portion of Tarlac
  • northern portion of Bulacan
  • northern portion of Quezon (Infanta, General Nakar) including Polillo Islands
  • Camarines Norte
  • the northern portion of Camarines Sur
  • northern and eastern portions of Catanduanes

Areas under TCWS No. 1 may experience winds that pose a minimal to minor threat to life and property.

A landfall in Batanes is still possible, as Leon will be nearest to the region from late this evening until tomorrow morning.

Super Typhoon Leon is expected to move northwestward over the Philippine Sea before making landfall along the eastern coast of Taiwan tomorrow afternoon, October 31.

The next tropical cyclone bulletin will be released at 5:00 PM today.
