The state weather bureau on Tuesday reported that the tropical storm, whose international name is Haikui, has maintained its strength outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

In its lastest weather bulletin, PAGASA said Tropical Storm Haikui was last tracked 1,965 kilometers (km) East of Northern Luzon.

Haikui is packed with maximum sustained winds of 65 km per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

The tropical storm is moving westward at 20 kph and is forecasted to move generally west-northwestward over the Philippine Sea until Friday.

According to the state weather bureau's forecast, Haikui may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) region this Wednesday afternoon or evening, and it will be called "Hanna" once it is inside.

PAGASA said Tropical Storm Haikui will steadily intensify and may develop into a severe tropical storm category either before or after entering PAR within 48 hours.

The state weather bureau added that Haikui may be raised into the typhoon category over the northeastern PAR region.

"The current forecast scenario suggests that HAIKUI is less likely to directly affect the country. However, it may enhance the Southwest Monsoon beginning on Wednesday or Thursday," it noted.
