Two more Filipina athletes qualify for Tokyo Olympics

24-year old judoka Kiyomi Watanabe and 25-year old sprinter Kristina Maria Knott joined the growing list of Filipino athletes who have secured slots for the upcoming Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Watanabe qualified for the Olympics through the continental quota.

Based on the final qualification list posted by the International Judo Federation, Watanabe garnered 1,506 points to finish in 41st place in the women's 63 kilogram category.

Knott, meanwhile, will compete in the women's 200 meters run of the Tokyo Games after qualifying through the universality rule.

Including the two Filipina athletes, the Philippines already has 15 representative for the Tokyo Olympics, which will open on July 23 and run until August 8.

Other Filipino athletes who have qualified for the Olympics include:

  • Criz Nievarez (rowing),
  • Kurt Barbosa (taekwondo),
  • Margielyn Didal (skateboarding),
  • Jayson Valdez (shooting),
  • and Juvic Pagunsan (golf).
