On Thursday, Dr. Anna Liza Ramoso-Ong, wife of the well-known cardiologist, internist, and social media figure Dr. Willie Ong, filed her husband's Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for a senatorial seat in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.

"Nandito po ako, ang may bahay ni Doc Willie Ong para i-represent siya for Senator," Ramoso-Ong told the media during a press briefing after the filing of the COC.

"Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng nagdasal for Doc Willie Ong," she added.

As she presented her husband's COC, Ong's wife became emotional, while Atty. Gilbert Lauengco, serving as his legal counsel and spokesperson, answered media inquiries.

“In so far as his health condition is concerned, he will be able to go back to the Philippines by [the] end of November and he will be able to physically campaign by December,” said Lauengco to reporters.

Furthermore, he noted that Ong's doctors have informed him that his current illness is treatable.

Ong previously shared that he is facing a battle with sarcoma cancer.

Presently, Willie Ong is in Singapore for cancer treatment, and Liza Ong is accompanied by representatives from Aksyon Demokratiko, her husband’s political party, as she files the COC.

In a Facebook Live session on September 30, Ong announced his intention to run for a Senate seat, stating that his wife would be filing the COC on his behalf.

During the 2022 elections, Ong served as the vice-presidential candidate alongside former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno under the Aksyon Demokratiko party, but they were not successful in their bid.
