Gabriela Women’s Partylist Rep. Arlene Brosas on Tuesday, October 8, condemned Pastor Apollo Quiboloy’s filing of certificate of candidacy for Senator.
The Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader is currently facing multiple charges of qualified human trafficking and abuse against women and children. Brosas suggested the possibility of the pastor using his candidacy as a shield for the crimes he committed.
"It is appalling that someone who is facing such grave cases would attempt to evade justice by seeking public office," Brosas said.
"Parang katatawanan na lang ang eleksyon kung ang mga ganitong klaseng tao tulad ni Quiboloy ay papayagang tumakbo,” she added.
Moreover, she highlighted the broader implications of Quiboloy’s candidacy, citing the potential normalization of impunity within politics.
“Allowing individuals with such garbage record to vie for public office sends a dangerous message: that power can be wielded to evade justice. We must not allow this to become a precedent in our society,” Brosas stressed.
Brosas called on the Filipino people to reject Quiboloy’s candidacy and to remain vigilant in ensuring that the electoral process will not be used as a shield by those who committed heinous crimes, especially against women and children.
The detained self-proclaimed ‘appointed son of God’ filed his COC on Tuesday, through his legal counsel Atty. Mark Tolentino.
