Filipino boxer Eumir Marcial settled for a bronze medal finish in the Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Marcial failed to advance to the finals of the men's middleweight boxing after losing to Oleksandr Khyzniak of Ukraine on Thursday, August 5, via split decision.

Three judges have a score 29-28, 29-28, 30-27, in favor of Khyzniak while the two remaining judges gave a score of 29-28, 29-28 for Marcial following the three-round bout at the Kokugikan Arena.

The Filipino boxer earned a spot in the semifinals by defeating Arman Darchinyan of Armenia and Younes Nemouchi of Algeria in fights that lasted only for one round

The Philippines will bring home at least four medals from the Tokyo Olympics

Hidilyn Diaz won a gold medal in the women's weightlifting 55 kilogram event while Nesthy Petecio earned a silver medal in the women's boxing featherweight division.

Carlo Paalam, meanwhile, has a chance to win another gold medal for the Philippines after he defeated Ryomei Tanaka and advanced to the finals of men's boxing flyweight event.
